CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Lachlan kissed her eyelids and woke her. A contented smile slid across her face when his desire nudged against her thigh. Sparks flickered to a flame as he feathered kisses along the length of her neck. Slender fingers raked his hair and pulled him closer for a morning kiss.

Magnificent streaks of crimson ribboned through the window. Lachlan turned to witness the sunrise with wonderment and awe.

“I don’t want to ever miss another daybreak, lass.”

“I prefer sunsets. I don’t have to get up early to enjoy them.”

“Aye, lass. I've learned that about ye. A couple days and we’ll be home to see one.”

Loath to leave the warmth of his embrace, she reached for her sweater in the heap of discarded clothes on the floor. The bloody jeans, she rolled up and stuffed in the wastebasket and removed a new pair of red silk panties and jeans from the saddlebag that served as her suitcase.

“I almost forgot. Colin insisted I guesstimate your clothing size and bring these along for you.” She set a pair of black jeans, a grey long sleeved tee, and sneakers on the end of the bed. “Might as well try them on. The scrap of cloth you call a kilt isn’t going to last much longer.”

“I’ll have ye know that scrap of cloth was woven with Faerie magic and it will survive as long as I do.” He sounded disgruntled.

Lachlan rose from the bed they’d shared, standing naked and glorious, he chuckled when he caught her staring. She blushed and dropped her eyes. When he turned his back, she took advantage of the situation and unashamedly got an eyeful of his backside before moving along on her intended course to the bathroom to freshen up.

When she returned, Lachlan was dressed. The shirt pulled too tightly across his chest, the pants were two inches too short, and he looked divine.

“How are the sneakers?” she asked.

He quirked an eyebrow. “Sneakers?”

“Shoes. Those particular shoes are called sneakers.”

“Ah, I see. Too bloody small.” He tugged at the thigh of the pants, pulling them down. “These trews are a bit. . . restrictive.”

She chuckled at his meaning and said, “Give them a couple of hours in the saddle and they’ll stretch.”

They packed up the remainder of their meager belongings and walked to the elevator. Lachlan pushed the button to call it to their floor. He learned quickly.

The elevator doors whooshed open and an elderly couple stepped to the rear of the compartment. Once aboard, Lachlan pressed the button numbered two. The doors began to close then abruptly halted. “It’s broken.”

Brenna reached out and pressed the L-button and Lachlan grunted. The doors closed and they descended to the lobby. They headed out into the sunshine and rounded the corner of the B&B to retrieve Enbarr. Once saddled, seated, and out of town, the Fae horse set a fast pace in an easterly direction. They continued in relative silence, well past the noon hour, with only a short break for Brenna to walk a little and relieve her jostled bladder.
